I did not need to face such a problem as Gi and others were still around. As our leader, Gi would have warned us if there was smoke. Look at me in the following photo taken 8 years ago today (5/6/2004), I did not even need to open my eyes as other cats would demand foods for me.
As recent as 2 years ago today (5/6/2010), I was sleeping comfortably with Mui and Lik as evident in the following photo. I remember Mui would alert Lik and I if there's smoke.
Today, once again, I am all by myself as no other cats is around anymore to alert me if there's a fire or smoke. In the evening, Fatty was pan-frying some fish for dinner, and the whole house was filled with black smoke because he turned the heat too high on the cast iron pan.
I was sleeping well until I smelled smoke. After I woke up, I screamed at Ball as Fatty was taking a shower, and my first instinct was to escape. I stood at the door that has access to the outside because I was ready to leave the house.
After Fatty finished taking a shower, he brought those burned fish to me in order to comfort me. Fatty kept nagging that the house is not on fire, and everything is under control.
When the smoke was almost gone, I discovered a new place, after all these years (the porch was built around 9/11/2001), to watch birds outside - bench in the porch!
No wonder Mui loved watching birds in the porch (the following photo was taken on 9/11/2011, couple weeks before Mui passed away) even at night.
